My First Post:)

So I’m not really a blogger but this is my very first post….Open source is something I always had interest in and was keen to get involved with.

I find Open source great because it allows everyone to collaborate together to develop a better software by having each individuals involvement in the project, whether its writing a piece of code, fixing a bug or suggesting a new feature, everyone is working together to produce a better software that we people want.

This is the reason why I prefer the Bazaar model because it brings everyone together whether it is because of their interest in it, need or involvement, the point is we are continuing to make a better product because we want to! Also I strongly believe if you do not have interest in something then you can’t expect yourself to do well or always exceed in it…To at least you’re fullest potential.

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox

Seeing the success of Mozilla’s Firefox web browser and the potential growth of a web browser with it not being just a simple window to surf the web anymore but in fact its capability of having add-ons’ and many great features that just makes the users experience on the web a lot better, were starting to see competition. Now we have Google chrome which I use and I find it great but then if we have a web browser like Firefox developed by Mozilla corporation which is maintained by many contributors around the world whom strived for years to make Firefox what it is today and are continuing to doing so, then what’s the need of another browser when one is already successful and why not continue to improve it.

REVELOUTION OS

Revolution OS was a great video because it provided me a better insight as to how the idea of Open Source originated and the whole concept of having free software which lead Richard Stallman to developing GNU a version of Unix but was free….It amazes how he devoted his time and effort and even left his job at MIT Labs to begin the development of GNU.

Although I do not have much work experience in Open source but OSD566 with David Humphrey will give me the opportunity to get involved by allowing me to make a contributing towards Mozilla. So I am very excited and will be looking forward to this course.

I still have to speak to David and get myself a project. This is it for now!

Thanks
